LORETO NEWSLETTER
Term 3
20 August
2010

DEAR PARENTS AND GUARDIANS

Congratulations to our School Choirs and Drama Groups, which are representing Loreto Convent so well at the Tshwane Youth Arts Festival.  We are delighted with the learners' good performances and feel very proud of them all.  Thank you, as well, to the Choir Leaders who work so hard encouraging and inspiring the girls - your dedication is highly appreciated.

FINANCIAL MATTERS

All fees for Term 3 have to be paid up to the end of September 2010.  No learner, who still has outstanding school fees on the account, will be permitted to attend classes in Term Four.

The registration fee for 2011 has to be paid by 31 August, 2010. Places for 2011 can only be guaranteed when this registration fee is paid.  Last year a number of High School Learners were denied places, because their registration fees had not been paid in time. We are currently enrolling many learners from other schools for 2011.  Please register to ensure a place for your child next year, as we hope that most of our learners will continue their education at Loreto Convent.

All Day Care fees are payable in advance.  Learners whose fees are in arrears for Day Care, will no longer be permitted to attend Day Care.  Please note that if Day Care fees for August are still outstanding on Monday 23 August, you will be asked to fetch your child straight after school.  He/she will not be allowed into the Day Care Centre, so will have to go home immediately school ends.

Day Care fees for September are due on 1 September.  If unpaid by the 7 September, your child will not be permitted to attend Day Care and will have to go home straight after school.

 CONDOLENCES
Our sincere condolences to the family of NKONGNDEM ACHA-ANYI (Gr 1M) on the death of her grandmother.
We pray that God may hold this family in His loving care and grant them comfort and consolation.

TRANSPORT
Transport required from Willow Park Manor to school and back.  Please contact the learner’s mother, if you can help in this regard:    0746250072

 PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS

Last Friday, we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption with a beautiful Mass in the Cathedral.  Afterwards, the learners all worked together to make gifts which will be distributed to various Charitable Organisations next week.  It was a very happy day, in which everyone tried to think of those less fortunate than themselves, by making items which will bring happiness to others.

  1. S.P. Choir rehearsal will take place on Friday 20 August, at the State Theatre, during the school morning.  The actual performance will take place on Monday 23 August at the State Theatre at 18.30.  NO CHILD WILL BE PERMITTED TO LEAVE SCHOOL BEFORE 2PM ON MONDAY 23 AUGUST.

  2. On Friday 27 August, the S.P. Choir will be performing at the “JUBELATE FESTIVAL” at NH Gemeente Pretoria-Oos (near Club\Dely roads intersection, Waterkloof Park) from 14h00.   The learners may be fetched at 17h00 SHARP. (A separate letter, with a map, will be sent to parents).

  3. There will be a Cultural Evening on Wednesday 15 September, from 18h30. VENUE:  The School Hall

  4. Please remember to send in any toys, that your children do not play with any more, for our Outreach.

  5. PLEASE keep your children at home when they are sick, and taking medication.  At this time of the year, as the season changes again, many children become ill and must stay at home in order to recuperate properly, and in order not to spread illnesses to their classmates.

  6. On Tuesday 24 August, ABSA Bank will be coming to teach Grades 3, 5 and 7 how to save money.  This is an excellent initiative and we are pleased to encourage our learners in this worthwhile endeavour. The organisers have requested that each child bring the following items to school on Tuesday 24 August, as this is going to be a fun-filled exercise, while teaching a serious message as well.

  • Grade 3 learners are asked to bring the following items each:
A medium sized or large empty coffee tin, with a lid
    A pair of scissors
    Glue
    A permanent marker
    One old magazine

  • Grade 5 learners are asked to bring the following items each:
An empty grocery box (e.g. cereal box, tea, biscuits)

  • Grade 7 learners are asked to bring the following items each:
    A ruler
    Empty lunch box

PTA NEWS
Please remember to use your My School and Makro cards when you go shopping.  A percentage of all money spent gets paid to the school’s fundraising efforts.

L.O.G. News
The Annual Reunion will take place on Saturday 2nd October.

All past pupils of Loreto Convent are welcome and we would love to see many more of our girls attend the function.  It is very important that the close connections formed at school are continued once girls go their separate ways after Matric.  So many LOGS request information about classmates, a few years after leaving school, and if we don’t have up-to-date details it only results in disappointment.  Mrs. Wisselo is always glad to see Old Girls- please give her all your contact numbers and email address.

God’s Word is like refreshing rain
that waters crops and seed:
It brings new life to open hearts,
and meets us in our need.   (Sper)
